Permanent Collection

We are currently preparing a new presentation on the History of Drenthe. For this reason, the Archeology, History of Drenthe and Contemporary Realism collections are temporarily not available.

In addition to temporary exhibitions, the Drents Museum has an extensive permanent collection. Visit our page with top pieces to already take a look at some of the highlights.

Art 1885-1935
Dutch visual arts and crafts from the period 1885-1935 can be seen in this department. This period is characterised by stormy developments in “free” and applied art. This department starts in the so-called Ballroom, which will already bring you into the atmosphere of around 1900. The following rooms present objects from the period 1885-1915 and 1915-1935. In the print room you can see beautiful book covers and prints.

Archeology (temporarily not available)
Here you can see impressive mammoth bones, unique Neanderthal finds, objects from 'hunebedden' (dolmens) and burial mounds, the oldest boat in the world and of course the peat corpses. Watch and listen to the background of the Yde girl’s drama in the Yde theatre.

History of Drenthe (temporarily not available)
The Drents Museum not only gives Drenthe a view of the world, but also gives the world a view of Drenthe. For this reason our collection includes objects that reflect the history of Drenthe.

Contemporary Realism (temporarily not available)
The museum has more than 150 works by artists including Henk Helmantel, Matthijs Röling, Wout Muller, Pieter Pander, Sam Drukker, Douwe Elias, Barend Blankert en Berend Groen. More information on our Contemporary realism collection.
