Russian curator in Drents Museum in Excange Program EUNIC

In the past weeks, the Russian archaeologist and curator Barbara Busova has been a guest at the Drents Museum.

Barbara is an archaeologist and curator from Russia, who specialises in early Iron Age leather from southern Siberia. She works at the Grabar Art Conservation Center in Moscow and came to Assen via the "Exchange Program for Young Curators" of EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture). This cooperation has been established thanks to the Dutch Embassy in Moscow. Barbara joined the archeology curators of the Drents Museum to see how Dutch curators practice their profession.

Together with her supervisor, curator Bastiaan Steffens, Barbara worked on a future prehistory exhibition. In addition, she participated in the exhibition "Under the spell of Mount Ararat”, which will be on display in the Drents Museum in 2020. In this exhibition, objects from the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan will be shown, together with a unique wooden relic from Noah's Ark. Much of the literature about these objects is in Russian, so Barbara was ideally suited to participate in this.

As an expert in the field of leather, Barbara has also advised the Northern Archaeological Depot in Nuis on how best to preserve their leather objects.
