Egbert Streuer’s notable figure stood out everywhere on the international motorcycle circuits in the 1980s and 1990s. He was mostly known for his exceptional sporting achievements. He won the world championship three times in the sidecar category. He shared these achievements with his passenger Bernard Schnieders, along with winning the Dutch TT in Assen twice. The Drents Museum has organized the exhibition Egbert Streuer – The most successful Dutch motorcycle racer to honour this Assen-born sportsman. It will be held from 10 February to 1 September 2019.

The exhibition is an ode to speed merchant Egbert Streuer (1954), who managed to win 22 Grand Prix races during his career. It transports you, as it were, to Streuer’s beloved TT circuit, where you race from one theme to the next: from the Man from Drenthe to the Racer, from the Professor – who was always tinkering with his machine – to the Hero he was to his large fan base.

From trophies and motorcycle outfits to unique audiovisual material
Showing his many trophies, motorcycle outfits and engines, the exhibition tells the story of this sidecar racer who will celebrate his 65th birthday in 2019. Original and unique pictures from the collections of motorsport photographer Henk Keulemans and Egbert’s former manager Lee van Dam are exhibited along with video material from the Drenthe Archive which have never been shown before.

Old sidecar motorcycle restored to its former glory
One of the highlights of the exhibition is Streuer’s restored sidecar motorcycle with the immediately recognizable red, black and white colour scheme of his main sponsor Lucky Strike. In collaboration with the Digital Art Factory Assen, the museum has developed an unique 360-degree simulation of the TT track. Here you can experience what it feels like to drive a sidecar motorcyle or follow the movements of the passenger.

Spraakmakende Drenten series
After exhibitions featuring blues icon Harry Muskee and amateur archaeologist Tjerk Vermaning, this exhibition about Egbert Streuer is the third in the Spraakmakende Drenten series featuring prominent people from Drenthe. It is accompanied by a publication that bears the same name, written by sports journalist Natascha Kayser in collaboration with motorsport photographer Henk Keulemans.
