Guided tour of Dacia

  • On request
  • Drents Museum

On request we offer a guided tour for groups through Dacia - Empire of gold and silver.

The Dacians reached a very high level of processing precious metals, both technically and artistically, even before the Roman conquest. Yet these Dacians are one of the ‘forgotten peoples’ of world history. How is it possible that these Dacians, who inhabited a large part of present-day Romania in the 2nd century BC, are so unknown? What role did the Romans play in this? After all, they devoted two battles to finally conquering the warlike Dacians in 106 AD.

Our museum lecturer will take you on a journey past gold and silver treasures from the 20th century BC to the 3rd century AD and answer these questions. The lecturer will also tell you about the area where they lived, why this is such a unique location and the function of these magnificent objects.
