Rabenhaupt’s helmet

On 30 December 1672, within the space of an hour Carl Rabenhaupt and his army managed to take Coevorden, which was then held by troops of the Bishop of Münster. The following year Rabenhaupt’s opponent flooded Coevorden, and again Rabenhaupt had to intervene. In that same year, he was appointed Sheriff of Drenthe and Governor of Coevorden. Rabenhaupt died in Coevorden on 12 August 1675 and was buried in the city church. The Drents Museum has held his helmet in its collection since 1854.
