Statement Drents Museum

In the night of 24-25 January 2025, we at the Drents Museum were victims of a violent art theft. We are deeply shocked by this event. It saddens us greatly and we sympathise intensely with our colleagues at the National History Museum of Romania in Bucharest, who loaned us the stolen art objects. Our hope is that these works of art will soon be returned in intact condition, given their great cultural and emotional value to many people.

The investigation

Read our latest statement regarding the investigation and proliminary hearing on our news page.

We are open again

On Friday 31 January we reopened our doors to the public. We are pleased to be able to receive visitors again. Our colleagues are working hard to resolve the aftermath of the events.

Gen F - 75 years of figurative art is now on view for the public. The large collection presentation Labyrinthia and the other exhibitions People of the road and Donders dikke plaoten can also be viewed now.

Additional for the media

We are receiving many questions from the media, including about the security of the exhibition. In the interest of the police investigation, the Drents Museum cannot make any further announcements at this time. Do you have any additional questions? If so, please contact us via communicatie@drentsmuseum.nl.

More information can be found on our news page.

We regularly send out press releases and photos, which can be downloaded royalty-free for one-time use under our press conditions. We also often organize a press preview for major exhibitions.
