Wonderlab

- 6 September 2025 till 1 March 2026
- Drents Museum
Visit the Wonderlab from 6 September! Here, two young collectors from Drenthe share their treasures. In the Wonderlab you can also take part in lots of activities. Create your own fantasy animal, organise a cabinet of curiosities and investigate unusual objects. Wonderlab is part of the exhibition Microcosm – The World in a Wunderkammer.
Young collectors
“I think my box of beetles is the most special. It has a scorpion, a tarantula, a rhinoceros beetle and lots of other creatures,” says Lenn. Jonathan (7) from Hooghalen and Lenn (8) from Assen collect things like skulls, preserved animals, shells, stones and feathers. In the Wonderlab, Jonathan and Lenn present their collections.
In a video, they explain what they collect, why they do it and what they would most like to add to their collections. Jonathan says: “I’d really like to have a Megalodon tooth. The Megalodon is related to the great white shark and has been extinct for a very long time, but you can still sometimes find its teeth – and they’re as big as a grown-up’s hand.”
Anyone Can Collect
In Wonderlab you can get going yourself. A range of hands-on activities spark curiosity and wonder for both young and old. Create a fantastical creature together, uncover surprising facts in a quiz or investigate objects under a microscope. You can also try arranging a cabinet of curiosities or capture a moment at a special selfie spot in this children's Wunderkammer. For the very youngest visitors, there are Toddler Cabinets filled with puzzles and games inspired by objects from the exhibition.
